Geral Information:   Genghis Cohen

Genghis Cohen might be overlooked by many who seek out live music because of it's restaurant appeal, and it is quite the restaurant, but there's more here! Start with music nearly every night of the week, a casual bar and you'll find yourself coming back over and over again for the "Southwestern Chinese Cuisine."

The Atmosphere:

Separated from the street by a cast iron fence, the patio area draws a crowd of people hanging out or just trying to get some fresh air. A low-lit awning and tinted windows gives Genghis its upscale feel. They cover all the angles here, providing a few chairs to sit on and a heating lamp.

Once inside you'll have to make a quick choice, bar, food or music? To the left is the dinning area, straight ahead is the bar and to the right the music. If you head right, into the music room, you'll find it set up a little like a church, with bench sitting for about 50 or 60 people. The seating also includes a ledge that is suitable for food and drink.

The bar has everything you could want and you can still watch the band through a glass window, but it's far enough from the music that you can enjoy a conversation with a friend. There are also a handful of TVs, incase you feel like you're missing the game.

Dining is a real delight at Genghis Cohen. The food is amazing and untraditional for a music venue to have this caliber of food. I guess this is what happens when a great restaurant decides to host live music. This has to be the best of both worlds.

What you should know:

Genghis is well known for it's primarily acoustic acts and stripped down band setting. The place is small, which makes for an intimate setting. A great deal of the folk and adult alternative acts play here, lots of singer songwriters. The cover is usually between $8 and $10.

Parking Situation:

They have their own lot but you can also park on the street. The neighborhood is good but the street lighting is low. Mostly, we recommend the normal cautions; check the street signs, expect the lot to fill up quickly on a busy night and bring a friend incase you have to walk (we through that one in, bring a friend!).
