Article - Honeybreath!

Honeybreath : 14 Below

Honeybreath is a band whose existence has spanned almost ten years. Their sound is one of the most unique and haunting sounds in independent music today; haunting not for some twitch with a synthesizer or masterful production, but for sheer simplicity and skilled musicianship. Armed with a sound mostly described as The Cranberries meets Morrissey, Honeybreath enjoyed a successful night of music recently, playing for the first time at 14 Below in Santa Monica.

Article - So Unloved!

So Unloved : Anarchy Library

Many bands come and go throughout this city. Hollywood’s reputation for being a transient haven of lost souls, tortured artists and a happy host for near-cathartic co-existences with other equally troubled and transitive soulsearchers is time-honored. In this chapter, our path crosses one similar journey, borne from the so-called sinister town of SATANtonio (also known as San Antonio, Texas) comes a scrappy little quartet filled with the prerequisite amounts of angst, fire, callous disregard for their fellow neighbor’s health and safety - especially

Article - Outlett!

Outlett : The House Of Blues

Live, music alone is only half of the formal, it's the show, the excitement, the way the band interacts with the audience that takes a good band and makes them great. Outlett, a local, 4-piece LA hard rock/metal band has what it takes to ignite the audience, bringing the shy listener from the back of the club and forcing their curiosity to the front of the stage... Leaded singer and percussionist Chastity Completo brings together the presence of lead singers like...

"units of measure" - CD Review

"One thing Units of Measure doesn't lack is musicianship. The guys bring some great playing to the record, polished, almost too good. They wonder across styles, and have great textures in their instrumentation. Vocalist/Guitarist Craigie Fresh voice is unique, interestingly melodic, soft, and could be described as pleasantly dark. Notably Craigie Fresh's voice is what makes Units of Measure feel personal, which pulls you in..." "I'm reminded of Barenaked Ladies crossed with Red Hot Chili Peppers..."

On The Scene - Upperstructure!

Upperstructure @ The Baked Potato

The Baked Potato is home to no less than some of the best musicians in town, and Upper Structure was no disappointment. A band that is truly enjoying the music, brings a skill level that is not only interesting to the ears, but is great fun to watch. Embracing a hip hop, R&B style with a little bit of everything thrown in between, the music is a journey, with heartfelt messages. Vocalist/Rapper, Flutist, Saxophonist, Katisse Buckingham brings that "front man" persona the likes of...

Article - The Dollyrots!

The Dollyrots : Viper Room

"Playing for a packed house at the Viper Room is never an easy feat for any artist, yet young power punk band The Dollyrots made it look quite easy, playing the 9:30 P.M. slot recently at Viper as part of an evening presented by Indie 103.1 F.M., and Filter Magazine... Their task was simple: having to follow a blisteringly fast, loud and raucous set by The Waking Hours, they needed to lay it down with equal force..."

Article - Alan Smithee!

Alan Smithee : Rusty's Surf Ranch

Alan Smithee started out their set with some nice grooves, poppy and definitely all American. Fluid keys from Frank Haggerty jump out at you conveying a sound that's upbeat and cheerful. I feel a little Huey Lewis and the News going on here. The band has first-rate dynamics, simple and tasteful background vocals and nice changes throughout the songs. Their transitions are smooth; I can tell that's something they focus on during rehearsals. The bass player, Paul Brantley, dominates the stage with some of the best presence I've seen in LA-and he can even sing backup.

CD Review - Krister Axel!

Krister Axel : Swexico

"Swexico"…soothing vocals and appealing melodies, you'll be delighted when you pop this new release from Krister Axel. Brooklyn's rhythmic guitar lines, keys sustaining underneath and simple horns bouncing atop the melodic lines will have you singing along. It's well chosen background vocals encourage audience involvement.
