The material: Nothing completely original about what they're doing here. The guitars add the finishing touches, keeping you interested in the music. There's nothing good or bad about the vocals, except that they've been done this way so many times it's hard to appreciate them. They've gone with some traditional "commercial" approaches to their songs and it shows.
Musicianship: Good solid band, well rehearsed stage performance. Jon Zamora's vocals are warm and fit right in with their full sound. The guitarists, Billy Meyer and Adrian Verloop, are the focal point of the music. The group is dynamic, though their overall volume remains the same. The drums, Dave Schartoff, and bassist, Marc Zamora, lay the foundation for their driving alternative hard rock sound.
The Show: The band is great live and really seems to enjoy being on stage. Their set is polished; as they go from one song to the next will little downtime. The lead guitarist Marc Zamora adds something unique to the sound and was by the far the most enjoyable to watch on stage. You can tell these guys have played a lot of shows and have worked hard to perfect their craft.
The Bottom Line: Not bad, not great. The Color Red is an aggressive Warped Tour kind of act with a familiar sound. A few of their songs have "radio" potential. Probably not the next Hoobastank or quite as eclectic as a group like System of the Down, yet they're playing to the same audience. With the competition in their genre I would be surprised to see them on MTV or played on KROQ, but stranger things have happened.
