"No, they don't suck."
by: the Amish Gangster Brick Pistol : Paladino's 5/1

When I first laid eyes on this motley crew of Inland Empire rockers, Brick Pistol, I wasn't sure if they were serious...then they ROCKED Paladino's like it's never been rocked before! To a festering Wednesday night crowd of only myself, they spewed 50 minutes of speed metal and rock 'n roll mayhem.

Their set opened with the tune "Love Dies Like Suicide" which reminded me that indeed, whammy bars and huge tapping solos are still cool. Other highlights of the set include "Between the Boundaries" (another headbanger vehicle), and a classy metal ballad "Picture Perfect Day". By far the most memorable song of the set was "Don't Need You" featuring a duet between singer Johnny Tyrant and a life-size cardboard cutout of a lingerie model. With an intense drum intro, you're going to need your Prozac for this (The) Clash-like punk/metal epic complete with choreographed string section a la ZZ Top. The set climaxed with the song "Mental Illness" featuring a short, arrhythmic, yet logical solo by each member of the band.

With mullets, flannel, tattered jeans, and a stiff upper lip, these Hemet based fashion misfits will rock you right out of your Van Halen shirt. Brick Pistol won my heart with arena-rock energy, syncopated guitar riffs, and a delightfully tacky wardrobe.
