Krave: July 28th, 2000 live at City Walk

Krave performed outside of the Hard Rock Café in Universal City Walk on Saturday, July 29th. The 4-piece band, fronted by vocalist Renee Myara, who also plays rhythm guitar, is an emotional time bomb going off every time they perform. With Patrick Mazenod on lead guitar, Emily Bernard on Bass / background vocals and Ryan Barker on drums, they fill out their sound just right. Renee can belt out vocals with the best of them and she has a great ear for melodies. The music that the band writes is edgy without being too heavy and catchy without being too poppy. If you leave a Krave performance without at least 3 songs stuck in your head, than your ears are painted... and you should have that looked at.

This band has been playing together for a couple of years now and has been winning fans over with their crafty songwriting and infectious live energy. Saturday night was no disappointment. You can tell that the members of Krave love what they do - from the way Patrick's body sways with the deep grooves of the music to the way Emily's smile cuts through the crowd. Behind the drums, Ryan pushes the music in all the right ways. As a band, Krave is first rate and packs a lot of energy. If you are looking for a band to wake you up on a Friday night - you should check these guys out.

You could take Krave at face value and walk away from their performances having had a great time, but there is something extra special buried in their lyrics. Renee taps into the undercurrent of emotion running through modern life.

In one of Krave catchier tunes, "This Life," Renee lyrically explores the loss of someone close. Far from being a song that brings you down, I find it inspiring. With lyrics like, "This life, This life, is just a ladder to the next, and we'll meet you there, we'll meet you there," you get the hope of meeting again in the next life and an appreciation in the lyrics for what this person was in her life. When listening to this song, I find myself remembering that I should enjoy each and every relationship I have. Life is however long it is, and people are what make the journey special. As simple an idea as it seems, we forget, and it's a less painful reminder when the lyrics are built into a song that you'll love singing along to.

I'd share more of the lyrics, but I think they sell their current CD for around $5 and at that price, you should just go out and buy it. I'm not sure where Krave is playing next, but they always have some friendly people at their shows selling CDs and other Krave memorabilia.

Watch out for this band because they have their noses to the grindstone and are doing some great things. Krave will get your blood pumping live and it's rumored that they are in the studio recording some new songs to be released on yet another highly anticipated Krave CD.
